Clashes in Ladakh killed 20 Indian soldiers
Twenty Indian soldiers have been killed in clashes with Chinese troops in the Galwan Valley in eastern Ladakh. The news agency ANI quoted the Indian Army as saying that night (Tuesday). Earlier, the Indian military said one colonel akynd two soldiers had been killed in clashes on Monday night.
Three soldiers were killed and 17 others were seriously injured in the clashes on Monday night, ANI reported, citing Indian Army sources. They died as a result of prolonged injuries at temperatures below freezing, much higher than sea level and under the open sky.
The ANI also said that the Chinese troops had also suffered heavy casualties in the clash which lasted for about six hours. At least 43 Chinese troops were killed or seriously injured. However, Chinese authorities did not acknowledge any casualties.
The Hindustan Times reported on Monday night's clashes that Galwan had not fired any shots. The armies of the two countries attacked each other with stones, rods, nailed sticks, etc. The clash lasted for about six hours.
A high-level meeting of the government was held Tuesday to discuss the incident.

The Hindustan Times further reported that the Indian Army had removed a post set up by China on the Indian border. This is said to be the beginning of the conflict.
Meanwhile, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said on the incident of clashes on the Ladakh border, "Indian troops crossed the border into China twice on Monday. They attacked Chinese citizens. As a result, there was a clash between the two border guards. Three Indian soldiers were killed.
China also said that Indian incitement had led to border clashes. At the same time, the Chinese military claims that the Galvan Valley has been theirs forever.
