বিড়ালের আত্মরক্ষা মহম্মদ ঘোরী শাহ সেদিন প্রাত ভ্রমণের সময় অদ্ভুত একটা দৃশ্য দেখলাম। যেটা আমার মনে আজও গভীর দাগ কেটে আছে। যখনই  একটা বিরাট প্রতিপক্ষ আমার উপর অন্যায় অত্যাচার নামিয়ে আনে ,তখনই মনে শক্তি জাগে যে ছুটে না পালিয়ে যতটুকু শক্তি আছে তা নিয়েই রুখে দাঁড়াই। বিড়াল যে বাঘের মাসী সেদিন স্বচক্ষে প্রমাণ পেলাম। সে বাচ্চাই হক আর বুড়ো হক জাত একই l তাদেরকে কেউ আক্রমণ করলে ত প্রতিহত করতে জানে। পিঠ পেতে চিরকাল মার খেতে জানেনা।তাদের রক্তকণিকার বৈশিষ্ট্য এমনটাই। তখন পুব আকাশ কেবল লাল হয়েছে , ঝোপের মধ্যে তখনো অন্ধকার আছে। ইতিমধ্যেই রাস্তাই প্রাত ভ্রমণকারী দের আনাগোনা শুরু হয়েছে। এমন সময় শুনতে পেলাম একটি ঝোপের মধ্যে বিড়ালছানা ম্যাও ম্যাও ম্যাও ডাক। হয়ত  বিড়ালছানাটি তার মাকে খঁজে ছে। হত তার মা তাকে রেখে শিকারে বেরিয়ে পড়েছে। বিরালছানার কাতর ডাক শুনতে পাওয়া মাত্রই গোটা চারেক সন্দমার্কা কুকুর তেরে এসে ঝোপের মধ্যে প্রবেশ করল। অমনি বিড়ালছানাটি ঝোপ থেকে বেরিয়ে দিল ছুট। কুকুরগুলো তার পিছু নিল। কিছু দূরে একটা বাগানবাড়ী ছিল, তার প্রাচীর খুব উঁচু ছিল। এখানেই বিড়...

স্মৃতির মণিকোঠায় দীননাথ স্মৃতি পাঠাগার  রেশমিন খাতুন আজ আমাদের লাইব্রেরী দীননাথ স্মৃতি পাঠাগার নিয়ে কিছু লিখতে ভীষন ইচ্ছে করছে। এই লাইব্রেরীর সাথে আমার ছোটবেলার বহু স্মৃতি জড়িয়ে আছে। যখন ক্লাস পঞ্চম শ্রেণীতে পড়তাম, তখন থেকেই এখানে আসা যাওয়া শুরু করেছি। প্রথম যখন লাইব্রেরীর সদস্য হই, তখন কার্ড বানিয়ে দিয়েছিলেন এক দিদি। ভীষন ভালো মানুষ ছিলেন।  কিন্তু দুর্ভাগ্য, এখন তার  নামটা কিছুতেই মনে করতে পারি না। মনে আছে তিনি আমায় খুবই ভালোবাসতেন। আমার মাত্র একটা সদস্য  কার্ড হলেও, আমি চাইলেই তিনি আমাকে দুটো বই বেশী দিতে দ্বিধাবোধ করতেন না। সেই তখন থেকেই ওই লাইব্রেরীর কাঁচের আলমারির রঙিন বই গুলো দেখে  ভীষন ভীষন লোভ লাগত। কিন্তু সেই দিদি বলতেন ওগুলো বড়দের জন্য। বলতেন  'মাধ্যমিক দাও, তার পরে নিও। ততদিনে ওগুলো পড়ে বোঝার মত মানসিকতা তৈরী হবে তোমার"। আমার বড়দির সিনিয়র কার্ড ছিল, তাই বড়দি সেসব বই আনলেই পড়তে বসে যেতাম। সেসব দেখে মা বকতেন প্রায়ই।তিনি বলতেন, "নিজের পড়ার বই গুলো এভাবে মনযোগ দিয়ে পড়লে এতদিনে দেশ উদ্ধার করে ফেলতিস"। তারপর মাধ্যমিক দিয়েই সিনিয়র সদস্যের ক...

জনরোষ বনাম জনচেতনা মহম্মদ ঘোরী শাহ্ কিছুদিন পূর্বের ঘটনা।রাস্তার পপাশেই একটা গ্রামের মধ্যে প্রচণ্ড হৈ হল্লা চলছে।যাত্রা থামিয়ে সেইদিকে একটু এগিয়ে দেখলাম,শ' খা নেক লোক দাঁড়িয়ে কিছু দেখছে হাত নাড়ছে ও চেঁচামিচি করছে।আর বেশকযেক জন মিলে একটা ঘন ভীড় তৈরী করেছে।শুনলাম একজন ছেলেধরা ধরা পড়েছে,আর ঐ ঘন ভীড়টার মধ্যেই তার গনপিঠুনি চলছে।ভীড়ের মধ্যে কয়েকজন স্থানীয় পরিচিত যুবককে দেখে তাদের কাছে গিয়ে বললাম, কি হচ্ছে এ সব? ছেলেধরা তো পুলিশে দে।এমন সময় এক মহিলা চিৎকার করে বলছে,  না ছেলেধরা নয়! ও পশ্চিমের কবিরাজ।তখন পরিচিত যুবকদের আবার বললাম,কিছু একটা কর! লোকটাকে বাঁচা,নইলে গ্রামের দুর্নাম হবে।তবে যুবকগুলো বিশেষ কায়দায় নিজেদের জীবন বাজি রেখে ভীড়ে মধ্য থেকে লোকটিকে অর্ধমৃতবস্থায় অনত্র সরাতে পেরেছিল।দেখলাম, পাকাচুল ও পাকাদাঁড়ি রক্তে লাল হয়েগেছে,পাঞ্জাবি ও লুঙ্গিটা ছিঁড়ে গেছে। এ যাত্রায় কবিরাজ রক্ষা পেলেও অসম,ত্রিপুরা,মনিপুর ও মহারাষ্ট্রে তারা জনরোষ হতে রক্ষা পায় নি। মানসিক ভারসাম্য হীন, ভিখারী কিম্বা ভীন রাজ্যের মজদুর যে'ই হোক না কেন জনরোষ  ছেলেধরার দোহাই দিয়ে একের পর এক খুন হয়েই চলছে। ...

দেশভক্তির সেকাল এবং একাল  ইদানিং এমন কিছু ঘটনা ঘটেছে তাতে দেখাগেছে কতিপয় মানুষ কিছু মানুষের দেশভক্তির পরীক্ষা নিচ্ছে। 'জয় শ্রীরাম' বা 'জয় ভারতমাতা কি' প্রভৃতি বাক্যাংশ উচ্চারণকে সেখানে দেশভক্তির প্যারামিটার হিসাবে ধরা হচ্ছে।অথচ এই বাক্যাংশ গুলোর উচ্চারণ যে দেশভক্তির বহিপ্রকাশে জরুরী বা সংবিধান নির্দেশিত বা রাষ্ট্রীয় রীতিনীতিগত প্রচলিত এমনটাও নয়।আবার যেভাবে এই বাক্যাংশ গুলো উচ্চারণ করানো হয় তা এক প্রকার আগ্রষণই বটে।কারণ দেশভক্তি এভাবে মাপা যায়না, নাগরিকদের দেশভক্তি ফুটে উঠে তার কর্মে অর্থাৎ সংবিধানের প্রতি শ্রদ্ধাশীলতার উপর। তবে এইরূপ পরীক্ষা নিতে দেখাগেছে রাজনীতির নীচুস্তরে।কোন নির্বাচিত জনপ্রতিনিধি তথা সাংসদ বিধায়ক এতে সরাসরি অংশ নেন নি।তবে ঐ স্তরেও যে দেশভক্তির সংজ্ঞার পরিবর্তন হয়েছে তা বলাই বাহুল্য।আমরা দেখেছি প্রবীন প্রণব বাবুকে নাগপুরে।ভারতের রাজনীতিতে তিনি বেশ অভিজ্ঞতা সম্পন্ন, তবুও তিনি নির্দিধায় স্বীকৃতি দিলেন যে আর এস এস এর প্রতিষ্ঠাতা কেশব বলিরাম হেডগেওয়ার ভারত মাতার মহান সন্তান। দেশ যখন আর একটা স্বাধীনতা দিবসে ভারতমাতার মহান সন্তানগনের স্বাধীনতার আন্দো...
