Members of the lower house of representatives of the US Congress have voted to impeach President Donald Trump over the Ukrainegate scandal. On Thursday, the Democratic Party-controlled House of Representatives voted 232 in favor of impeaching Trump, and 196 members voted against it.
US news channel CBS reports that two members of the Democrat party voted against Impeachment and one independent member voted for Impeachment. On the other hand, all members of the Republican party voted against Impeachment.
After voting in the House of Representatives, a detailed plan for the investigation and subsequent proceedings was approved to impeach Trump.
The White House reacted to this shortly after the House of Representatives voted. White House spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham described the impeachment process as unfair, violating the constitution and contradicting US customs. President Donald Trump, in his response, called the impeachment process the "greatest persecution in American history."
The Democrat party has decided to impeach Trump, saying he has humiliated the president by seeking help from a foreign state to injure his main political opponent.
Trump is alleged to have sought foreign assistance so that he could be re-elected in the 2020 presidential election. As part of this, he put pressure on Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelinsky that a possible Democrat party candidate Joe Biden and his son should be investigated against corruption. Otherwise, President Trump will stop providing military aid to Ukraine.
