Russia criticizes US for deploying troops in Poland

Russia has strongly warned Washington against plans to deploy US troops from Germany to Poland.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said the deployment of US troops from Germany to Poland would renew tensions between Russia and the United States.

Russia has long warned the United States that the deployment of NATO troops near the Russian border would prove that it is provoking Russia to retaliate with a US military presence in Poland.

The Polish government has expressed interest in deploying US troops withdrawn from Germany, but Russia has been angered. Poland's location is very close to the Russian border.
